Overview

Mosaic is a concept prototype for Lenovo’s smart office ecosystem, designed to simplify hybrid work by connecting devices, spaces, and people. Developed during my internship on Lenovo’s inaugural User Experience Exploration team, I collaborated on ideation, UI design, and branding to address collaboration and meeting-room friction through a cross-device Ecosystem Hub.

Discover

Problem

The office experience today can feel disjointed.

With Lenovo’s diverse portfolio of devices, users can experience a fragmented ecosystem with limited cross device collaboration for smart, IoT office environments. We focused on three main problem spaces:

  • Disconnected device ecosystems

  • Meeting-room friction

  • Lack of clarity and continuity across spaces

Goals

  1. Reduce friction across meetings and collaboration

  2. Design with accessibility and inclusivity at the forefront

  3. Improve cohesiveness
Design with accessibility and inclusivity in mind
Align UX decisions with Lenovo’s business and ecosystem goals
    Explore future-facing smart office opportunities

Define

Opportunity Statement

With Lenovo’s diverse portfolio of devices, users can experience a fragmented ecosystem with limited cross device collaboration for smart, IoT office environments. This gap presents an opportunity to elevate Lenovo’s ecosystem to streamline user workflows and strengthen brand loyalty. We settled on five main components of our concept that we would prioritize;

Target Users

Mosaic is designed to balance the needs of both end users and system managers, creating a smart office ecosystem that is intuitive for employees and practical for long-term enterprise use.

Develop

Exploration & Iteration

After establishing initial wireframes, we moved from low-fidelity sketches to mid-fidelity layouts to refine structure and interactions, then finalized high-fidelity designs using flexible native components and Cake UI to bring the system to life.

Methods

We used a variety of methods in our initial discovery:

  • User interviews

  • Workshopped with Lenovo teams & stakeholders to narrow down our ideas:

  • Examined Lenovo’s current portfolio and future-facing concepts, including CES 2025 reveals and products such as ThinkReality glasses and Legion Go.

  • Competitive / ecosystem review

Research Insights

From our primary and secondary research, we were able to narrow down 5 main insights uncovered:

UI Design

We designed the UI to support seamless collaboration across devices, while staying true to Lenovo's existing UI components in order to maintain brand consistency. Each design decision focused on reducing friction, improving clarity, and helping users move through meetings and workspaces with confidence.

Deliver

Final Concept: Mosaic

Mosaic represents the culmination of research, iteration, and systems-level design thinking. By connecting devices, spaces, and people into a cohesive smart office ecosystem, the final solution reduces friction in hybrid work and ultimately creates a vision for how smart offices can work better for the people who work in them.

Portfolio Fit

Mosaic felt like a natural extension of Lenovo’s ecosystem, with room to push it forward. Using existing concepts as building blocks, and Lenovo NextUX team research, this project allowed me to explore how smart office technology could scale while still feeling thoughtful, accessible, and human.

What did I learn?

  • Think systems, not just individual screens; Working on this project pushed me to think beyond just individual interfaces and look at how devices and spaces can interact as one ecosystem.

  • Prioritize prioritize prioritize!; With only 3 months and a broad assignment, we had to learn what was most important, and focus on the most impactful moments.

  • Listen, communicate; I became a sponge when I arrived at Lenovo, and found that listening to my mentors and communicating with the people I was working with was essential to growing in my personal design journey, and in our project.
